Canyon Ridge Intermediate is the perfect transition and bridge between elementary and middle school. Our goal is to provide a challenging curriculum full of hands on/engaging activities each day and to build students’ confidence. It is important that every child feels capable, smart, cared about and has a multitude of opportunities for success. I will always strive to provide the best resources, teachers, lessons, activities, and curriculum needed to challenge and help your child to be successful. My background: I was a 6th grade English teacher at Mustang North Middle School for 8 years and at Mustang South Middle School for 2 years, Teacher of the Year at both schools, State Tech. Teacher of the Year, and Mustang District Teacher of the Year in 2009. I do NOT believe I was chosen for these awards because I was in any way better than another teacher. We truly have so many outstanding teachers in our district. I simply believe it is because I have such joy in working with kids, parents, and teachers. I am passionate about teaching, putting technology into the hands of our students and teachers, helping teachers continually grow, and in being and giving our very best to our kids every day. Further background: I was assistant principal at Mustang Middle School for 5 years before opening Canyon Ridge Intermediate Center as principal in 2013. I hope that my background in Middle School provides me with the perspective of how to best prepare kids to be successful at the next level. I feel that our outstanding assistant principal, Ryan Waggoner, provides the perfect balance as he brings perspective from elementary school. This makes us a great team to help your child during this great transitional age. What a fun age 5th and 6th grades are! Very sincerely, Kathy Blackwell, Principal   Intermediate Schedule:   Our schedule is departmentalized and includes 75 minute block classes where 5th graders travel as a homeroom within teams to slow the pace of a student’s day and promote the sense of family between teachers, students, and one another. 6th grade students travel from class to class more independently, as in middle school, but the 75 minute classes create a calmer pace and help students develop organization and better accomplish learning activities. We offer a variety of clubs: Academic Team, STEM, Robotics, Science Club, Archery, as well as clubs and performances related to the Arts, such as Honor Choir, Art Club, Photography, and more. There are intramural sporting events (such as 3 on 3, dodgeball, and more) during the school day as well as dances, open gym nights, STEM fairs, Academic Competitions, and Family Events such as movie nights on the lawn plus more. Canyon Ridge Intermediate is a wonderful school because of parents, students, teachers, and staff… It is our goal to ensure every child learns a lot, grows in academics, confidence, kindness and character, … KNOWS they are cared about, and has a lot of fun along the way. Our Facility: We have a gorgeous building, but I have often said that we could teach in a tent because it is the people who make the difference. Many say they can feel the difference the moment they step through our doors. The difference at Canyon Ridge is that everyone in our Canyon Ridge family, support staff and faculty, has such a heart for kids and believes every child should be safe, happy, challenged and successful.
